De Hallen Haarlem
Identity, 2007-2017
With great pleasure we design a printed invitation for every exhibition of contemporary art museum De Hallen Haarlem. Deriving form the design of the card we set a 'signature look' for each campaign of the specific exhibition period, from posters throughout the city to signage within the museum.
The identity of the contemporary art museum De Hallen Haarlem functions on different levels. The museum is built out of a composition of three neighboring buildings on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. This inspired us to start breaking up fonts and after several drafts we were cutting vertically into every possible typeface. Now we could use a different typeface for every artist to create its personal identity, and to visually connect them with the exhibition and the De Hallen Haarlem. The intervention in the typefaces makes De Hallen Haarlem recognizable into its smallest detail and at same time gives us the ultimate freedom to play around with the overall identity.
We had the honor to exhibit the designs for the museum in De Hallen Haarlem in 2010 and 2012.
Also see the catalogue which shows an inventory of all used typefaces up to then.
